This online Arithmetic Mean Calculator calculates the arithmetic mean of a set of numbers. Enter the set of numbers in the input field of the calculator and click the “Calculate” button. You can paste the input data copied from a spreadsheet or csv-file or enter manually using comma, space or enter as separators.
Arithmetic mean formula
In mathematics, the arithmetic mean, often referred to as simply the mean or average, is defined as the mean of the \(n\) values \({ x }_{ 1 },{ x }_{ 2 },…,{ x }_{ n }\):
$${ \bar { x } ={ \frac { 1 }{ n } }\sum _{ i=1 }^{ n } x_{ i }={ \frac { x_{ 1 }+x_{ 2 }+\cdots +x_{ n } }{ n } } }$$
The arithmetic mean is the most commonly used and readily understood measure of central tendency in a data set. In statistics, the term average refers to any of the measures of central tendency. The arithmetic mean of a set of observed data is defined as being equal to the sum of the numerical values of each and every observation divided by the total number of observations.
