Body Mass Index (BMI) for Adults is a numeric value based on the human height and weight that can be applied to both men and women between the ages of 18 and 65 years. How to calculate body mass index
BMI is defined as the body mass expressed in kilograms divided by the square of the body height expressed in meters.
BMI can indicate if you are overweight, obese, underweight or normal. A healthy BMI score is between 18.5 and 24.9. A score below 18.5 indicates that you may be underweight and a value above 24.9 indicates that you may be overweight.

● BMI is equal to or less than 18.5 (Underweight).
A low BMI can indicate that your weight may be too low. You should consider measures of gaining your weight and first consult your physician. The low body mass can weaken the immune system and leads to various diseases and ailments. The lower your BMI the greater the risks are.
● BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9 (Normal Weight).
People with a BMI within range of 18.5 to 24.9 have the ideal body weight relative to their height, that leads to higher life expectancy and lower incidence of serious illness.
● BMI is between 25 and 29.9 (Overweight, not obese).
People with a BMI within this range are considered overweight and can benefit from finding ways to healthy life in order to lower their weight, such as diet and physical exercises. People who fall in this range are at constant risk for a variety diseases and ailments.
● BMI is between 30-34.9 (Class 1 or low-risk obesity).
People with a BMI within the range of 30-34.99 are in a physically unhealthy condition, which puts them at risk for serious ailments such as heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, bone and joint problems, gall bladder disease, and others. Therefore these people should consider seriously to modify their lifestyle. But first they have to see a doctor and consider complex measures of reducing the weight to gain considerable health improvements.
● BMI is between 35-39.9 (Class 2 or moderate-risk obesity).
A BMI of 35-39.9 indicates a severe risk of weight-related health problems and even death. So consult a doctor and take immediate steps to reduce the weight to a lower BMI.
● BMI is over 40 (Class 3 or high-risk obesity).
With a BMI of over 40 one has an extremely high risk of weight-related diseases and premature death. Therefore it is very important in this case to see a doctor and get professional help to reduce the weight.
