Enter the value of any two parameters in the fields of this basic Percentage Calculator and calculate the third parameter in the percent calculation formula.
Calculating a percentage of a number
A percentage is a dimensionless (pure) number or ratio expressed as a fraction of \(100\). For example, \(67%\) is equal to \(67/100\) or \(0.67\).
The percentage formula can be written in the following form:
$$\frac { Part }{ Whole } =\frac { \% }{ 100 } .$$
The percent value is computed by multiplying the numeric value of the ratio by \(100\). For instance, to find \(20\) as a percentage of \(250\), first compute the ratio \(20/250 = 0.08\), and then multiply by \(100\) to get \(8%\). The percentage can also be calculated by multiplying first, so in our example the \(20\) would be multiplied by \(100\) to give \(2,000\), and then this result would be divided by \(250\) to yield \(8%\).
Generally, to calculate what percent \(A\) is of \(B\), you should divide \(A\) by \(B\), and then multiply by \(100\). The resulting C will be the percentage in question. Likewise, when \(C\) and \(A\) are given the value of \(B\) can be calculated according to the formula: \(B = (A/C)⋅100\). And when \(B\) and \(C\) are given the value of \(A\) can be found respectively as: \(A=(B⋅ C)/100\).
