This online quadratic equation calculator is a quadratic formula solver that finds a second-order polynomial equation roots. Enter the coefficients a, b, c of the quadratic equation in the fields of the calculator. Solution of quadratic equations are usually two different real or complex roots or one real root.
ax² + bx + c = 0
Find roots of quadratic equation
The quadratic formula is used to solve a quadratic equation and find its roots:
$$x=\frac { -b\pm \sqrt { { b }^{ 2 }-4ac } }{ 2a } .$$
Depending on the value of the discriminant of the quadratic equation (the expression under the root sign) there are three options:
\({ b }^{ 2 }-4ac=0\) – there is one real root,
\({ b }^{ 2 }-4ac>0\) – there are two real roots,
\({ b }^{ 2 }-4ac<0\) – there are two complex roots.
