• Second. The second is the fundamental unit of time in the International System of Units (SI). It is currently defined as the duration of 9,192,631,770 oscillations of a cesium-133 atomic clock. This definition ensures that the second remains consistent and precise across different scientific endeavors.
• Minute. Derived from the second, the minute consists of 60 seconds.
• Hour. The hour comprises 60 minutes. Hours and minutes find widespread use in everyday life, facilitating timekeeping and scheduling activities.
• Day. A day is the time it takes for the Earth to complete one rotation on its axis. It consists of 24 hours or 1,440 minutes or 86,400 seconds. The concept of a day forms the basis of our daily routines, work schedules, and natural phenomena like sunrise or sunset.
• Week. A week comprises seven days and is a common unit used for organizing time in calendars and schedules. While the division of the week into seven days has historical and cultural roots, it also aligns with the lunar cycle, where each phase of the moon takes approximately seven days.
• Month. Months are primarily used to divide the year and represent approximately one-twelfth of a tropical year — the time it takes for the Earth to complete one orbit around the Sun. Various calendar systems, such as the Gregorian calendar, define the length of months differently, resulting in variations between 28 to 31 days. • Year. A year is the time it takes for the Earth to complete one revolution around the Sun.
